WHAT IS SPINAL CORD INJURY?

Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) is caused by trauma (such as traffic accidents, falls, diving incidents, and injuries from knives or firearms), diseases (like tumors and infections), or congenital defects (such as arteriovenous malformations and degenerative diseases). The most common changes are related to sensitivity and motor function, depending on the extent and location of the injury, which leads to an interruption or deficit in communication between the brain and the body below the level of the injury.
The impairments from the injury can be identified depending on the affected level, meaning whether body movements and sensations will be partially reduced or completely lost below the level of the injury. The level of the injury is determined by the neurological impairment evaluated, not the level of the fracture.
ROLE OF SPEECH THERAPY IN TREATMENT
Speech therapy is responsible for the prevention, evaluation and diagnosis, guidance, therapy, and enhancement of speech-related aspects in auditory, vestibular, oral and written language functions, voice, fluency, speech articulation, and the myofunctional, orofacial, cervical, and swallowing systems.
Spinal cord injuries can lead to reduced or absent nerve supply to some extrinsic laryngeal muscles and respiratory muscles, resulting in altered laryngeal movement during speech production and compromised respiratory muscles, which decreases pneumophonoarticulatory capacity and alters speech resonance.
A patient with spinal cord trauma requires multidisciplinary care, where the presence of a speech-language pathologist is essential. However, they must master the anatomical and functional characteristics of the spinal cord to understand the manifestations presented.

TECHNOLOGIES AND INNOVATIONS
Your Health and Well-being
At Prosense Clinic, we share your concern for health and well-being, and we are committed to providing innovative treatments that truly make a difference. We believe that combining advanced technologies with traditional therapies can transform treatment effectiveness. This integration enables more personalized and effective approaches, meeting each patient’s specific needs and enhancing outcomes.
Non-Invasive Neuromodulation
Through Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS), we are revolutionizing the treatment of neurological conditions. These techniques target specific brain areas, promoting significant improvements in disorders such as depression, anxiety, chronic pain, and other neurological conditions.
Virtual Reality (VR)
Virtual Reality is a powerful tool that creates immersive and interactive environments. We use VR to aid in the motor and cognitive development of patients, making treatment more engaging and effective. This encourages active participation from patients and promotes faster and more lasting results.
Botulinum Toxin
We use botulinum toxin to reduce muscle spasticity in patients with neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, and dystonia. This treatment improves mobility and quality of life, allowing patients to perform daily activities more easily.
Other Advanced Technologies
In addition to the mentioned technologies, we have various other equipment that you can check by clicking here.
Our goal is to offer the most modern and effective treatments to our patients, ensuring they have the best chance to reach their full potential.
